Zion is the "mother" congregation of the English District. It was through the work of it's pastor, Polycarp Henkel, who brought C.F.W. Walther together with the president of the English Synod that the latter merged with the former. Zion was formed by confessional Lutherans who moved from North Carolina to Missouri. From the beginning they worshiped exclusively in English.
